April Showers Bring May Flowers

What are the best flowers to plant in April.

When thinking about planting flowers for spring and summer the first question that you should ask is are they annual or perennials. If you are going to be going the perennials route then you should start them around six weeks early to make sure when spring starts you have flowers that are ready to be outside. Now to when your six weeks are going to be here are some three tips.

The Tips for your six weeks

  • Find your area the last frost date

  • Then count back from the average last frost date

  • Or just count back six weeks from when you want the flowers to be ready.

Now with starting your plants in doors or in you greenhouse during though six weeks there are somethings that you should know. Sometimes in the great state of Wisconsin the weather can be a little unwelcoming to new plants. For instances this months we started a lot of are plants in our greenhouse so we could get a head start for the season. Just to find out that on April 11 2019 we got around 3-5 inches of snow. This was when we just had a 60 degree day that Monday. So when starting your flowers you should make sure that the soil temperature will stay above 60 degrees. The reason is for that with the plants that we had in the greenhouse we did not keep the soil above even 50 degrees. Some of your seedlings could die but the real problems is with them is that they will almost like go into a dormant stage, then now take longer to germinate. When you keep you seeds above the 50 degree temperature your seeds will then start to germinate a lot faster or they will just be on time.

So now you know when to start your seeds and home why you need to keep you little seedling warm. Here are five of the best I found to grow in April and have them ready for summer.

  1. Crocus and Snowdrop Flowers

  2. Lillie's

  3. Daffodils

  4. Tulips " You can just plant stringent into ground. "
